I’ve Got Today Planned … or So I Thought

We never know what a day holds.

I woke up early with a list of things to accomplish.

Phone calls to make. Appointments to cancel. Appointments to make. Running Lydia in for a

blood draw. Calling Home Health for my dad. Calling the pharmacy about my dad’s new meds.

The list goes on and on.

What I didn’t have on my list was plugging in my phone to charge and throwing out my back

in the process. I could hardly stand or walk. Finding a position that wouldn’t cause intense pain

seemed impossible.

As I popped some Advil, and put the icepack on my back, my heart cried out “Not today! I

have too much to do! I can’t just lie around with an icepack.”

Then I thought, “Is there really a good day to throw out your back?”

“Man makes his plans, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Or as another version states, “People may make plans in their minds, but the Lord decides what they will do,” (Proverbs 16:9).

I can make my list, but I better hold onto it loosely. We never know what lies ahead.

Even though this is not the way I planned my day to go, God is still in it.

It says in John 5:17, “Jesus said to them, 'My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I

too am working.'” So, whenever our plans change, whatever unexpected things lie ahead, God is

always at work … for our good.

No, I couldn’t do all the running around I was planning on doing. But when I looked at my list,

a lot of the things I needed to do involved making calls. And I could do that from the couch. The

rest will just have to wait for another day … and God knew that.

Sometimes I just have to let go of my plans, and say “Okay God, what do you have for me today?”

That’s when my pain and frustrations turn into peace.

Blessings on you and yours!

Kerry
