I Will Praise You in the Storm

What is the weather like where you live? I don't mean the weather out of your window.

But is there a storm brewing in your heart and mind?

What trials and temptations are you facing?

It might be an illness, relationship problems, or work related.

Let me share some things I have learned about storms.

Storms may come in different ways.

Maybe you see it coming and can try to prepare yourself.

If I know we might lose power from an approaching storm, I make sure to have flashlights, batteries, and candles ready.

Some storms just sneak up on you. You weren’t prepared, and that made you more frantic when it hit. And some storms begin small, then become a hurricane.

Spiritually speaking we all face storms/trials at various times. Preparing for them is necessary, and will help us face them. Putting on the armor of God is the best way to be prepared.

In a spiritual storm we need to put on the Armor of God: the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Shoes of the Gospel, the Helmet of Salvation, the Shield of Faith, and the Sword of the Spirit.

The armor is our defense in the storm. Often I have used the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Bible. I will look up verses and write them on cards to read over and over when facing a trial.

At one time when I was going through a health scare involving many doctor appointments, I carried my scripture cards in my purse. As I sat in the waiting room I read through them and it reminded me that the Lord was with me. That he was in charge of my life.

One comforting verse I read repeatedly was:

“When I said, “My foot is slipping,” Your unfailing love Lord supported me.

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy“ ~ Psalm 94:18-19

The definition of consolation is comfort or relief when you are sad, disappointed or grieving.

I’ve lived long enough to know when we are facing a storm, the Lord can remove the storm (which I prefer), or walk with us through it.

Whatever you are facing today, may the Lord bring you consolation,

as I pray blessings over you and yours.
