Then They Cried Out to the Lord

I was reading in Psalms 107 this morning.
It started with, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
The Lord is good, and we need to give thanks ... We are told to give thanks.
Why? Because His love endures forever.
In verses 4-5, as they wandered in the desert, they were hungry and thirsty.
But in verse 6 it says, “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered
them from their distress.”
After that in verse 8: "Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.”
In verse 11-12, it talks about them rebelling against the words of God and despising His
counsel. But by verse 13 again, “They cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.”
Then verse 15, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful
deeds for men.”
2 more times in this chapter “They cried out to the Lord”, he rescued them, and then it says “Let them give thanks for his unfailing love.”
I pondered these verses.
Why did they forget the goodness of the Lord?
Why did they have to be reminded to give thanks?
But don’t we do the same?
When things are going well, and life is busy, we forget to give thanks to the Lord.
Yet when trouble comes, that’s when we cry out in our distress.
Thankfully, He is merciful and still rescues us. And why??? Because of his unfailing
love.
I want to learn to be more thankful, in the ups and down of life. And to remember
to thank Him for His goodness and love, even in the storms. Often, He uses the hard
things in life to get our attention, and to remind us of His great love.
The last verse 43, says “Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the
great love of the Lord.
